To size the AD-400 unit for double doors without mullion, consider the application first.
· Double Outswinging Doors should be equipped with an astragal or lip to cover the gap between the doors to prevent compromising this device. This product was designed for standard steel double doors without mullion but with an astragal and comes with three-and-one-quarter-inch (3¼"), five-inch (5"), or seven-inch (7") hook centers.
When applying the AD-400 to glass doors with metal frames, pay attention to the width of the stile or frame around the glass and the strength of the glass. The door should be equipped with an astragal. The application on glass doors with metal frames is a backup when the locking mechanisms have been compromised. An example would be convention centers or trade centers where locking mechanisms are frequently fouled.
· The Double Inswinging Door unit (AD-450 series) comes with five-inch (5") or seven-inch (7") block centers. When applying the AD-450 to residential double doors, pay attention to the stile and lock rail. The inswinging doors should also have an astragal.
